Zdravko Mavrodiev is a colorful figure in the artistic life of Bulgaria. He is one of the founders of the Apollonia Arts Festival in 1984 and their godfather. He was born in Sofia. In 1960 he graduated from the Academy of Arts, majoring in Applied Graphics under Prof. Alexander Poplilov.

Since 1961 he has been a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. He participates in the board of directors and in the management of the Creative Fund of the Union of Bulgarian Artists.

He is one of the driving forces in Bulgarian art, associated with the breaking of normative aesthetics.

In the tapestry "Cavalry", Mavrodiev shows the power and dynamics of the horse in an exceptionally elegant way. With the power of the elegant treatment of the form, futuristic construction of the volumes and through the power of contrast, he builds space. The image of fire is included in the work.
The main driving force in his work is color. Each color has its own psychological meaning.
It is no coincidence that this composition is dominated by shades of yellow, with red serving as an accent, and the grayish-greenish colors making the shapes of the highly stylized horses stand out in the space.
