Academician Svetlin Rusev graduated in painting at the National Academy of Arts, Sofia under Prof. Dechko Uzunov. Long-time lecturer at the National Academy of Arts. Chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Artists in the period 1973 - 1985. From 1985 to 1988 he was director of the National Art Gallery. He works in the field of painting and monumental art. Full member academician of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since 2003. Corresponding member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin (1983). Honorary chairman of the AIAP in Paris (1982). Honorary member of "Nika-Kai", Japan (1984). Honorary member of "Künstlerhaus", Vienna (1985).
Svetlin Rusev is turned towards his homeland and the rural way of life, always relying on multi-figure composition.
The themes in his works are social, labor and historical, in which, with the means of monumentally constructed form, expressive drawing and monochrome color, he creates plastic images with exceptional psychologism.
Here in "Bulgaria" he shows the labor-intensive nature of the Bulgarian and the many sufferings that the Bulgarian person goes through.
