The legendary Britpop anthems of the 90s are coming to Sofia with a grand symphonic rock spectacle!
On December 5th, Hall 1 of the NDK will transform into a stage for an extraordinary musical journey to the golden age of British music. Britpop Classical – the large-scale musical phenomenon that conquered the UK and gathered tens of thousands of fans of the most iconic music of the 90s – is arriving for the first time in Bulgaria.
At the helm of this impressive project is a true rock legend – Alex James, the bassist of the cult band Blur. Together with a large symphonic orchestra, a rock band, special guests, and impressive vocalists, he will lead the audience in Sofia through a new interpretation of the songs that changed the British music scene forever.
This is not a tribute concert. This is a grand musical rethinking of an entire era.
The spectacle traces the roots of the Britpop movement back to The Beatles, The Kinks, T. Rex, and The Who – the artists who inspired a whole generation of British musicians. From there, the journey passes through the Manchester scene and the cultural phenomenon Cool Britannia, which turned Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Supergrass, The Verve, The Stone Roses, and many more bands into symbols of an unforgettable musical era.
Together with Alex James, well-known names from the British scene will also take the stage – actor Phil Daniels, whose voice is heard in the legendary Parklife, Saffron from Republica, and Gary Stringer from Reef, who perform some of the most beloved songs of the decade.
World music media such as NME and The Mirror have described the show as a “masterclass in Britpop,” and the audience receives it as a true celebration of British music history.
Get ready to hear the timeless classics of:
Oasis
Blur
Pulp
The Verve
Radiohead
Supergrass
The Stone Roses
…and many more of the bands that shaped the musical landscape of the 90s.
The program features iconic songs like Wonderwall, Bittersweet Symphony, Common People, Parklife, Girls & Boys, Live Forever, Creep, The Universal, and dozens of other compositions that have become the soundtrack of a whole generation. These are songs that time has not only preserved – it has turned them into true musical classics.
Instead of simply adding a symphonic accompaniment to the well-known hits, Britpop Classical reinterprets them. The string instruments unveil new emotional layers, the brass section adds even more power to the iconic choruses, and the rock band maintains the raw energy that made these songs global anthems. The result is both familiar and completely new – a large-scale, cinematic experience that combines a rock concert with a symphonic spectacle.
From the explosive rhythms of Live Forever, through the timeless Wonderwall, the energy of Common People and Girls & Boys, to the emotional power of Creep and the grand finale with The Universal – this is an evening dedicated to music that still sounds as relevant today as it did three decades ago.
Britpop Classical has already conquered British audiences and critics, and now it is coming to Bulgaria for the first time. Whether you grew up with this music or are just discovering one of the most influential eras in the history of British rock, this spectacle promises an unforgettable encounter between the unfiltered energy of the 90s and the grandeur of the symphonic sound.
